Promoting preservation of the history of the Episcopal and Anglican Church

The Historical Society of the Episcopal Church strives to fulfill its three objectives:


  1. promoting preservation of the history of the Episcopal Church and its Anglican heritage.
  2. publishing to support the first objective, especially a peer-reviewed journal.
  3. cooperating with others. with others who examine the history of the Episcopal Church and churches of the Anglican Communion to encourage research, writing and education.

Members are from a variety of backgrounds and include laity and clergy, teachers and students, researchers and scholars, archivists and historians, professionals and amateurs — anyone with an enthusiasm for church history, especially of the Episcopal Church. All are welcome to become a member.

Activities of the Historical Society include publishing an academic journal, cooperatively publishing a general interest newsletter, facilitating conferences, serving as a resource, funding grants, and being an advocate for the study of Episcopal history.

Members of the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church play an important and crucial role in fulfilling its objectives. Member dues provide support for grants to research and programs. They also support needed administrative overhead to facilitate the flow of information. And of course there is also provision for publishing and conferences. The Board of Directors is especially thankful for those able and willing to provide contribution beyond those with a regular or retiree membership. Updated 3/1/2025.
